“Dental Sleep Medicine: Clearing the Hurdles to Successful Implementation”(6 hours)
Dr. Tucker has maintained a private dental practice in Erie, Pennsylvania, since 1982. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. For the past decade, he has treated patients with obstructive sleep apnea throughout the Erie tri-state area and has spent the last seven years educating fellow dentists in the field.
What the program covers:
Clinical foundation. Sleep physiology and its effect on overall wellbeing; screening for obstructive sleep apnea; diagnosis; and selection of an appropriate oral appliance design.
Practice systems. Office flow and integration; documentation; medical billing and reimbursement; communication with physicians and sleep laboratories; and building the dental sleep team.
Practice growth. How oral appliance therapy treats obstructive sleep apnea, and how to present and market dental sleep medicine within an existing practice.
Implementation will present challenges. Lasting success requires both a reliable system and a sustained commitment to the work.
